Societal expectations about parenthood/motherhood and the pressures that individuals put on themselves can really create a vicious cycle of not feeling adequate enough and guilt about not doing things “right” or “perfect”. The combination of these expectations and pregnancy and childbirth not going as planned can leave new parents and their significant other’s feeling overwhelmed, confused, and often times alone.

The truth is that 1 in 4 pregnancies result in loss, 1 in 5 mothers experience postpartum depression, and many birth experiences are traumatic. These experiences are very real but we’re not talking about them often enough.
