A Recipe for Self-Love: Listening to Your Heart and Cultivating Connection
Self-love can feel like an unfamiliar and vulnerable act, but it’s one worth exploring.
The following are words that were strung together in a moment of reflection where I was wondering about how we begin to learn the act of being loving and tender towards ourselves.
How sometimes we have to choose between love and self abandonment. For many of us, self-love is foreign- a foggy concept at best, and a scary act of vulnerability. But none of that means it’s not possible for you to find your way to loving yourself well. Some of us just need a recipe to get us started.
May these words inspire you to listen closely to your heart and soul as they guide you toward a more loving relationship with yourself.
A recipe for self-love
A recipe for self love is needed
Because you’ve been asking and waiting for others to see you, to love you, to hold you and your heart when all this time it was you who needed to do the seeing, the loving, the holding of yourself.
For yourself.
A recipe for self love is needed to remind you.
So you can (re)member that it has been you all along. That all you need and needed is right here with you. The recipe is not written anywhere but your heart and soul know it well. Perhaps you’ve heard bits and pieces of it whispered to you in your dreams or in those moments where you’ve allowed yourself to quiet.
Listen for it.
Connect with your breath, with your heart, with your soul seek to find what they are asking of you. For they will know the way to this kind of love. They will know what they and you need to be more loving and gentle with yourself.
This is how recipes are made. This is how you’ll find your own.
Reflection Prompt
What ingredients make up your recipe for self-love? Take a moment to reflect and write down the thoughts, practices, or actions that help you feel seen, loved, and held by yourself.
Somatic Practice
Close your eyes and take three deep breaths. Place a hand on your heart and another on your belly. Ask yourself: “What do I need to feel loved by myself today?” Breathe into this question and honor whatever arises.
